- Changes of the US H-2b immigration law.
There is an annual limit (called a “cap”) on the number of H-2b visas that can be issued per year (each US fiscal year runs from October 1 of one year through September 30 of the following year). Because the maximum number of H-2b visas was allotted early in the calendar years 2004 and 2005, the US Congress changed the law to exempt aliens from being counted within the maximum number if they have been issued H-2b visas in any of the three previous years. Another change is that half of the H-2b visas are now allotted to winter season employers (October 1 through March 31) and the other half are allotted to summer season employers (April 1 through September 30).
- New appointment system at the US Consulate in Bucharest.
Scheduling your visa interview with the US Consulate will be possible from now on only through a Call Center especially set up for this purpose. In order to reach it, you have to dial 0800-88-8472 (toll-free) or 021-202-9999 and provide a PIN number you can receive at any branch of Bank of Transylvania for an 11 USD fee. Your PIN number is active for one year starting from 1 pm of the day following your purchase. This will allow you to speak for up to 7 minutes with a call center representative. Within this time you can schedule your visa interview at the US Consulate in Bucharest and/or ask information about visa related procedures. At the time of your interview at the US Consulate, you still have to hold a receipt proving the visa application processing fee of 100 USD was paid at any branch of the same Bank of Transylvania.
